Introducing Mindful Sunnah: Supporting Muslim Mental Wellbeing

Today, we’re pleased to introduce Mindful Sunnah — a new mental health and wellbeing initiative created in collaboration with Mind, one of the UK’s leading mental health charities.

This project has been developed with Muslim communities in mind, aiming to offer supportive and faith-informed approaches to mental wellbeing and physical activity.

Rooted in Prophetic wisdom and supported by modern psychology, Mindful Sunnah brings a fresh, culturally grounded approach to emotional wellbeing, neurodiversity, and mental health support — with the added power of faith-led physical activity at its core.

Muslim life has always emphasised balance — between mind, body and soul. From the physicality of Ṣalāh (prayer) to the reflective stillness of Dhikr (remembrance) and the introspective nature of fasting, the Sunnah presents timeless tools to navigate life’s challenges.

Mindful Sunnah draws directly from this legacy, reconnecting communities with physical activities once practised by the Prophet Muhammad — such as walking, swimming, archery, and horse-riding — to build emotional resilience, mental clarity, and community cohesion.

We call this the “Active Sunnah” approach.

Why This Initiative Matters Now

Despite the holistic wellbeing teachings found within Islam, mental health remains a taboo topic in many Muslim communities. Misconceptions that anxiety or depression stem from weak faith can prevent individuals from seeking support, reinforcing societal and self-stigmas.

Mindful Sunnah directly addresses these stigmas – it affirms that seeking mental health support is not only valid but deeply Islamic.

What Mindful Sunnah Offers

Through our partnership with Mind, Mindful Sunnah will support Muslim communities by sharing faith-informed resources that blend Islamic tradition with mental health awareness.

The initiative also advocates for greater inclusion of neurodiverse individuals through values of empathy and acceptance, while sharing mindfulness tools rooted in Islam, such as muraqabah, Qur’anic reflection, and purposeful Salah alongside modern therapeutic support.

Our goal is simple: to create Muslim communities that thrive. That means recognising that faith and mental health go hand-in-hand, and that it’s not un-Islamic to ask for help — it’s prophetic.

By championing Islamic practices that nurture the mind, body and soul, Mindful Sunnah is more than a programme. It’s a movement toward collective healing, empowerment and resilience.

We invite mosques, youth groups, families, schools and community leaders to join us in this mission. Let us walk together — body, mind and soul — toward a more balanced, inclusive and emotionally healthy future.

Because wellbeing is Sunnah.
