Muslim Sports Foundation is pleased to announce that Dr Aaliya Goyal will be appointed as Chair of the Board of Trustees at our next Board meeting on 5 August 2025.
Dr Aaliya is a nationally recognised GP and health equity advocate, with a strong track record in public health, wellbeing and inclusion. Her appointment follows a rigorous and independent recruitment process, supported by Sport England and marks an exciting new chapter in MSF’s continued growth and development.
Dr Aaliya brings a unique blend of strategic insight, clinical expertise and a deep commitment to reducing inequalities, all of which will support our mission to enable healthier, more active Muslim communities across the UK.
This transition also reflects MSF’s commitment to strong governance, with the separation of the roles of Chair and CEO to ensure clarity and accountability. Sajid Hussain, who has served as both Chair and Interim CEO, will now focus solely on the operational leadership of the organisation.
Speaking with Dr Aaliya, she said: “I’m honoured to be appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Muslim Sports Foundation a charity at the forefront of creating safe, inclusive spaces for sport and physical activity for Muslim communities across the UK.
The data is clear: physical activity transforms lives. But barriers, including internal barriers, contribute to inequity in access and experience, and that’s where MSF steps in.
I’m excited to lead this charity in its next phase, with strategic partner Sport England and hopefully bring with me my network of health leaders, funders, community champions and changemakers who share this mission. If that’s you, don’t watch from the sidelines.”
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Sajid for his exceptional leadership and dedication as Chair since the Foundation’s inception. His commitment has been instrumental in shaping MSF’s vision, values and impact and we’re pleased that he will continue to guide our delivery as Interim CEO.
