Muslim Sports Foundation (MSF) is committed to strong governance, accountability and transparency in all aspects of its work.

As a charitable incorporated organisation, MSF is directed by its Board of Trustees, which holds overall responsibility for the organisation’s strategy, governance and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

MSF operates a governance-led model. We do not directly deliver sport or regulated activity; instead, we work through partnerships and funded organisations. Our role is to provide leadership, set expectations and ensure appropriate oversight, assurance and accountability across the activities we support.

Our Governance Framework

MSF’s governance arrangements are set out in our Governance Framework Policy and are supported by a suite of governance and control policies which operate together.

These policies ensure:

  • clear accountability for decisions and the use of public funds
  • transparency and openness in how the organisation operates
  • integrity and ethical conduct at all levels
  • effective oversight of risk, safeguarding and financial management
  • proportionate and informed decision-making

Governance and Control Policies

MSF’s governance framework is supported by a range of policies covering:

  • risk management and organisational oversight
  • financial controls and delegated authority
  • conflicts of interest and Trustee conduct
  • reserves and financial sustainability
  • data protection and information governance
  • records management and document retention
  • serious incident reporting and escalation
  • safeguarding and conduct expectations

Together, these policies form MSF’s Governance and Control Framework, ensuring that the organisation is managed responsibly, transparently and in line with its charitable purpose.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees has collective responsibility for the overall governance and strategic direction of MSF. This includes oversight of:

  • strategy and organisational priorities
  • financial management and use of public funds
  • safeguarding, equality and risk management
  • organisational performance and delivery

The Board works in accordance with its Terms of Reference and is supported by appropriate policies, systems and assurance mechanisms.

Accountability and Compliance

MSF is committed to meeting the requirements of the Charity Commission and, where applicable, the Sport England/UK Sport A Code for Sports Governance.

Our governance arrangements are proportionate to our size, structure and operating model, while ensuring appropriate oversight, transparency and accountability.

We maintain appropriate records, cooperate with assurance processes and ensure that key decisions are clearly documented and reviewed.

MSF is funded through a combination of public funding, grants, donations and sponsorship. We publish annual financial statements, which are independently examined in accordance with Charity Commission requirements and relevant accounting standards.

Continuous Improvement

MSF reviews its governance arrangements regularly to ensure they remain effective, proportionate and aligned with best practice.

This includes periodic review of policies, governance structures and assurance processes, as well as responding to changes in legislation, funding requirements and the needs of the communities we serve.
